The Franklin Institute Science Museum

This city has plenty of historic sites and interactive museums where visitors can have fun learning about a wide variety of subjects. One of these attractions is the Franklin Institute Science Museum.

At the Franklin Institute Science Museum, you and your family can explore permanent and special exhibits, watch a planetarium show, see an IMAX film, and more, all while learning about science. The museum is located at 222 North 20th Street in downtown Philadelphia, which is easily accessible in your own car or in a car rental from Orthodox Auto Company.

Hours and Admission

The Franklin Institute Science Museum is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., except when the museum is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

General admission to the museum is $16.50 for adults, $15.50 for military personnel, and $12.50 for children ages three through 11. General admission includes access to museum exhibits, science demonstrations, and a planetarium show. If you’d like to see an IMAX movie while visiting the museum, you can purchase general admission plus an IMAX show for $22.50 for adults, $21.50 for military, and $18.50 for children.


There are many permanent exhibitions at the museum where you and your family can explore different topics within science, such as outer space, machines, the human body, and electricity. You can also visit the Benjamin Franklin National Memorial located in the museum’s rotunda.

Depending on when you visit, you might be able to see special traveling exhibits at the museum. On view now until October 14, 2012, is the exhibition Dead Sea Scrolls: Life and Faith in Ancient Times. An upcoming special exhibit is Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition, which runs from November 10, 2012, until April 7, 2013.
