Benefits of Replacing your Engine Instead of Buying A New Car

So you’ve just found out that your car isn’t going anywhere any time soon because the engine has keeled over and died. At this moment, you’re probably thinking it might be time to replace old faithful. Well, not so fast! There is still a glimmer of hope for your current car.

Even if a brand new engine is too much to invest in, it doesn’t mean you can’t get back on the road. Used engines for sale could be the saving grace that keeps your car from being picked apart on a wrecker’s lot. There are just a few things to consider when buying a used engine instead of a new car.

Value for Money

If your car is otherwise in good working order, then it’s a bit of a waste to send it to a junkyard and start from scratch with a new vehicle. Chances are a new car will have its own quirks that weren’t advertised, and you’ll be wishing for your old wheels back.

A used engine is a great alternative if you want to keep your car companion by your side. Your mechanic can swap in the used engine and you can be back on the road in no time. A used engine will often be cheaper than any used car worth your time — after all, the used car comes with the engine and all the unnecessary parts that still work from your old one. And added value for money is you don’t have to pay for registering a new car when you simply replace your engine.

Ease of Shopping

It’s a whole lot less work on your part to get your hands on a second-hand engine than it is to get a whole new car. Who has the time for wandering around car yards, meeting up with sellers, and wearing out your shoes with all that tire-kicking?

With the magic of the internet, you can go online and get your hands on used engines for sale without walking out your front door. There's the added bonus of supporting local businesses when you shop this way, and there's no shortage of used car parts for sale if you put your efforts into looking for them!

Environmental Impact

The sad reality is that producing and disposing of cars isn’t the most environmentally friendly process — but one that happens every day whether we like it or not. When you opt to buy a used engine, however, you’re contributing to a much greener approach than simply tossing cars into landfills.

Picking out working engines and other car parts from broken down cars that would otherwise be destroyed and put into a landfill is a great way to help the environment. After all, if the parts still work well, then why waste them?

The Verdict

While there certainly comes a point where buying a new car is inevitable and worthwhile, you’ll save time, money, and the environment if you opt to replace a damaged engine with a working used engine. If your vehicle is damaged in other areas, however, and would require more extensive repairs to function, it may be better to search for a new car entirely. Whichever avenue you pursue, it's important to do your due diligence and make sure to shop from reputable sources.
