Some of your most cherished childhood memories happen on the summer days you spent at the zoo with your family. Every kid remembers seeing the exotic animals, eating lunch from a vender, and shopping for animal memorabilia at the gift shop. If you are looking for a summer activity while visiting Philadelphia why not make some memories at the Philadelphia Zoo?

Philadelphia Zoo Activities

The Philadelphia Zoo has several animal exhibits including the African Plains, Australian animals, Bear Country, Bird Valley, Monkey Junction, Carnivore Kingdom, Tortoise Trail, and the Reptile and Amphibian House.

One of our favorite exhibits is the Birds of Australia exhibit. Here you’ll be able to hold out nectar for the lorikeets, lories, and more that come and land on you. This open-air exhibit allows you to take in all the breathtaking birds that will be flying all around you.

The Philadelphia Zoo takes pride in all the great rides it offers for both adults and children. You can ride the Channel 6 Zooballooon, Amazon Rainforest Carousel, Express Train, Swan Boats, horses, and even camels! Again, all these rides are available for both adults and kids.

Special Events

One of the first things you should do when arriving at the Philadelphia Zoo is check out the list of special events held daily. You can stop by the orangutan demonstration at 10:30 each morning or the kangaroo demonstration at 2:00 p.m. If your child has a favorite animal, this is a great way to get up close and personal with them.

Philadelphia Zoo Hours of Operation

The zoo’s hours of operation are 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. The Philadelphia Zoo is open March through October. Admission at the Philadelphia Zoo for adults is $18, children ages 2-11 are $15, and those under 2 are free. If you plan on spending the day here, you can either pack a lunch and eat at one of the picnic tables or get tasty treats any of the several venders available throughout the park.
