3 Signs You May Need New Brakes

Many people tend to ignore the warning signs that something is not right in their vehicle. You may notice that a function, such as brakes, is acting strange but it is just easier (and cheaper, for now) to keep driving like nothing is wrong. However, brakes are a very important safety feature and should not be ignored. Your friends at Orthodox Auto Company urge you to keep a close eye on the condition of your brakes and get them checked out if the following signs occur.

1. You Hear a Grinding Sound

A temporary grinding sound when you brake could be a relatively minor problem, such as gravel caught in the brake mechanisms. However, a persistent grinding, screeching sound can also be an indication that your brake pads are dangerously worn. When the brake pads get worn down, the metal-on-metal contact can do serious damage to your rotors. Have your brakes serviced immediately to avoid having to replace rotors, which are significantly more expensive than new brake pads.

2. You Feel Excessive Vibrations

If you feel violent shaking every time you brake, it could mean one or more of your rotors is warped. Rotors are designed to sit parallel to their calipers so the brakes can bring your car to a smooth, even stop. That wobbling or shaking phenomenon typically occurs when the rotors become uneven. To stop the shaking and ensure your safety and the safety of your passengers, get your brakes checked right away.

3. Your Brake Light is On

There are all kinds of warning lights on the dashboard. It seems like some matter and some don't, so many people ignore all of them to avoid the nuisance and cost of getting them checked out. However, the brake light is there for a reason! So if it's on, there could be a serious problem with your brakes. Immediately take your vehicle to a trusted mechanic to have them diagnose the problem and fix any potentially dangerous brake issues.
